History

The Missouri Placement Association originally evolved from the desire of many in placement to have more programs and activities that were placement oriented during the summer MVA (now Missouri ACTE) Conference.

Before long, our people were meeting with representatives from what was then the Missouri Guidance Association (now MSCA) to help plan the conference.  Our group began calling itself the Missouri Placement Specialists although there was no formal organization.

Many felt the need to establish some type of formalized structure so that those in leadership roles would have a better understanding of their responsibilities and to allow for more efficient operation of the organization.  A committee was formed to draw up bylaws for the new organization and they were officially approved in September of 1988—the official beginning of what was then the Missouri Placement Association.

The original purpose of the Missouri Placement Association (MPA) was to promote the development of placement services to students enrolled in Missouri’s high schools, area career and technical schools, and colleges.

MPA also encouraged the development of creative placement activities; maintained and improved professional standards in the field of placement; and united professionals engaged in placement activities in the state of Missouri.

On July 27, 2005 MPA became MACS, Missouri Association for Career Services, following name change approval at the Missouri ACTE Summer Conference in Springfield, MO.
